Class 3

Murton Park trip

On Thursday (21st June) we had our class trip to the Danelaw Village at Murton Park, near York. We had a fantastic day, learning about life in Viking times.

The children (and myself and Mrs Britcliffe) spent the day in costume and had a go at farming; hoe-ing the land to plant crops, as well as grinding flour. We also made some oil lamps, using clay - which we were able to bring home with us. The children were also trained in Viking combat and had to chase off a pesky Anglo-Saxon spy, who tried to invade the village. At lunch, we were invited to eat lunch with the Lord of the village, in his great hall - he even showed us inside his longhouse before we left to come home!
